18K gold and other karats
Karat measures the share of pure gold in an alloy. It is not a measure of colour.
Pure gold is 24 karat. A karat is one twenty-fourth of the metal by weight.
| Karat | Share of pure gold | Percent |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 24/24 | 99.9 percent, called pure |
| 18K | 18/24 | 75 percent |
| 14K | 14/24 | 58.3 percent |
| 10K | 10/24 | 41.7 percent |
The remainder is alloy metal. Alloy changes colour and hardness. Yellow, white and rose gold can all be 18K; the colour comes from the alloy, not from a different karat.
Ivanka & Co jewelry is made in 18K gold, in white, yellow and rose gold. Choose the colour on the product page.
This page does not rank one karat as better for every person. A higher karat is a higher share of gold. A lower karat is a higher share of alloy.
